Porsche Macan - Review

Porsche has entered a new era with the all-electric Macan, blending the brand’s sports car heritage with modern EV performance and everyday practicality. This isn’t just an electric SUV with a Porsche badge, it’s a true driver's car that happens to be powered by electrons.

Performance

The Macan drives like a Porsche should. While it’s not pretending to be a featherweight sports car, this rear-wheel-drive version of the electric Macan is impressively agile for a 2.3-tonne SUV. Shedding some weight and ditching the front motor makes it more playful than you'd expect, especially when you realise it’s 110kg lighter than the all-wheel-drive Macan 4.

The single-motor setup delivers 340hp in standard mode, and up to 360hp in short bursts thanks to an Overboost function. With 563Nm of torque available, the acceleration feels strong yet smooth, never overwhelming.

The official 0–100km/h time of 5.7 seconds might not set the world on fire, but in real-world terms, it's more than enough to remind you you're in a Porsche. Add to that precise throttle response and perfectly judged brake feel, balancing regen with traditional braking, and you’ve got an EV that feels both exciting and refined behind the wheel.

Range and Charging

This version of the Macan boasts an official WLTP range of up to 641km, making it the longest-range model in the lineup. That’s thanks to its shared 95 kWh battery pack, minus the energy demands of a front motor.

Charging is quick, too. The Macan supports up to 270 kW DC fast charging, meaning you can go from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes on the fastest chargers. Even more modest 150kW and 120kW units deliver a top-up in around 33 and 46 minutes respectively. For home charging, a full overnight charge takes around 13 hours on a standard 7.4kW setup.

Design and Interior

Style-wise, the Macan carries over plenty of Porsche DNA. Its design leans heavily on the Taycan, offering a sleek yet distinctive profile. Even in base trim, with 20-inch alloys and a subtle rear badge, it has real presence. And with many Porsche buyers choosing to up-spec and debadge anyway, the entry-level version blends right in with its pricier siblings.

Inside, things feel premium, even if some materials and features are reserved for the options list. You don’t get leather upholstery or high-end trims as standard, but the cabin still impresses with its layout and tech. The front seats come heated and feature 8-way electric adjustment, with upgrades available for those who want more support or customisation.

Rear passenger space is a bit limited, especially in the middle seat where a slight hump eats into foot room. But the cargo area makes up for it, offering 540 litres in the boot and an extra 84-litre powered opening front trunk (frunk), plenty for weekend getaways or daily errands.

Tech-wise, the Macan features a crisp digital curved display lifted from the Taycan, alongside a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. You can also option extras like a passenger display or AR head-up display, but even the standard setup offers a clean, modern experience. Other nice-to-haves include a wireless phone charger, heat pump, dual-zone climate control, and physical buttons where they matter most.

Cost Considerations

Starting at €88,746, the entry Macan is the most affordable model in Porsche’s all-electric SUV lineup. With the Macan 4 priced just under €92,610, you're looking at a small price difference for a bit more power and a slightly quicker 0–100 time. But here's the kicker, you'd also be sacrificing about 30km of range.

For many, that makes the base model a smarter choice. You're still getting the Porsche badge, superb driving dynamics, and the longest range in the Macan family, without the added cost.

Verdict

Porsche’s electric Macan doesn’t just tick the right boxes, it confidently delivers one of the most well-rounded electric SUV experiences on the market today. With strong performance, premium build quality, long range, and signature Porsche handling, the rear-wheel-drive Macan might just be the sweet spot of the lineup.

It looks the part, drives beautifully, and offers real-world usability with minimal compromises. If this is Porsche’s entry-level electric SUV, the future’s looking very bright.
